Salem's Sanctuary provides care for community cats across Western North Carolina. We engage in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) of community cats, we have an adoption program for friendly, adoptable cats that we find through our TNR efforts, we provide wellness essentials to community cat caretakers, and perhaps most importantly, we run a low-cost veterinary hospital to make vet care accessible to everyone in our community, cats and dogs alike.
Salem’s Sanctuary Veterinary Hospital
Our nonprofit veterinary hospital provides affordable, compassionate care for cats and dogs throughout Western North Carolina. We are proudly feral-cat friendly and committed to making essential veterinary care more accessible to pets, rescues, and community cats.
Community Cat TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return)
We support local caregivers working to improve the lives of outdoor cats through Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return. By helping with trapping, spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and safe return, we’re building healthier community-cat colonies and preventing future generations of homeless kittens.
Adoption Program & Rehoming
Our adoption program gives rescued cats the care, time, and support they need to find loving homes. We also offer an innovative rehoming program for people who need help finding a new home for their own cat or a cat they have rescued.

Meet Choxie
“I have permanent brain damage from having untreated toxoplasmosis when living outside. I will be a long-term resident of Salem’s Sanctuary until I find a very special adopter, and I need food and special litter that doesn’t get stuck in my fur!”
Meet River
“I was part of a colony but my dad kept hurting me so Salem’s Sanctuary swooped in and scooped me up! I’m learning to trust people while my wounds heal and will need to stay at the sanctuary for quite a while. I would love to have some new toys and a scratching post!”
Meet Lukas
I should have been adopted months ago with my girlfriend Portia, but I got really nervous in foster care and pulled out all of my fur, so now I look like a plucked chicken and have to stay here until it grows back! Portia and I would love to have a large, cozy bed that we can snuggle in together!
